Most Android apps built by a professional team in India fall between ₹1.5 lakh and ₹25 lakh. That range is wide because "an app" can mean a five-screen catalogue or a real-time marketplace with payments and AI. The table below shows what each tier usually involves and what it typically costs.

Ranges assume Indian development rates of roughly ₹800–₹2,000 per hour. Rates vary by team seniority and city.

What actually drives the cost

Almost all of the variation comes down to five things. Understanding them lets you control your budget rather than just react to a quote.

1. Number and complexity of features

This is the single biggest factor. Every feature carries design, development, testing and edge-case handling. Rough guides from our own delivery data:

2. Design complexity

A standard Material Design interface is the cheapest route. A custom branded interface typically adds about 20%, and a premium design with motion and micro-interactions can add 45%. Design cost is not decoration — it is the difference between an app people tolerate and one they keep.

3. Backend and infrastructure

An app that only displays content needs almost no backend. An app with accounts, orders, payments or messaging needs a real server, database, authentication and monitoring. This is frequently the hidden half of a project budget.

4. Platforms

Building for Android alone is cheapest. Adding iOS natively roughly doubles the build; a cross-platform framework like Flutter can cover both for around 1.3–1.5× the single-platform cost, with some trade-offs in performance and platform feel.

5. Team rate and seniority

Indian rates commonly run ₹800–₹2,000 per hour depending on experience. A cheaper team is not automatically cheaper overall: rework, delays and rebuilds are the most expensive line items in software, and they are what inexperience produces.

What is usually not included in a build quote

These are real costs that often surprise first-time app owners, and they sit outside development fees:

• Google Play Developer account — a one-time $25 fee
• Apple Developer account — $99 per year, if you also publish to iOS
• Server and hosting — typically ₹1,000–₹15,000 per month depending on traffic
• Payment gateway charges — usually around 2% per transaction
• SMS and OTP — charged per message
• AI API usage — billed on consumption if your app uses an AI assistant
• Ongoing maintenance — budget roughly 15% of the build cost per year to stay current with Android releases and security patches

How long does an app take to build?

How to reduce your app development cost

• Launch a focused first version. Ship the one thing your users actually need, then add features once real usage tells you what matters.

• Fix the scope before development starts. Mid-build changes are the most common cause of overruns.
• Invest in design early. Changing a prototype costs hours; changing a built app costs weeks.
